The Opportunity
Elliptic's engineering organisation has grown significantly and is continuing to scale. Engineering Managers are the core of our culture and the people we trust to shape how our teams operate and how our engineers grow. We're looking for the right individuals to take genuine ownership of that, bringing their own experience and judgement to a set of real, unsolved challenges.
What You'll Do
People and growth
- Run regular 1-1s and performance reviews, giving your engineers personalised, honest feedback
- Understand each person's career goals and actively help them pursue them
- Build a healthy team culture where expectations are clear, people feel safe, and everyone can contribute fully
- Own hiring for your team, from identifying gaps through to making decisions
- Build onboarding plans that set new starters up properly, not just on paper
Team health and ways of working
- Own the health of your team, monitoring individual happiness and engagement with the team's mission
- Continuously refine your team's processes and ways of working to keep things frictionless
- Identify and remove the friction slowing your teams down, using data where you can
- Promote knowledge sharing and best practices across engineering more broadly
Objectives and delivery
- Participate actively in product and technical OKR-setting cycles, bringing your team's perspective into roadmap and goal-setting conversations
- Partner closely with your Tech Leads, who own delivery planning and execution, to ensure teams are well set up to hit their goals
- Stay close enough to the work to represent your teams confidently across the business, and keep the Head of Applications informed on progress and blockers
What We're Looking For
You'll be a strong fit if you
- Have 2-6 years of experience managing engineers
- Have a technical background in the relevant track (Platform and DevOps)
- Build trust quickly and lead through empowerment rather than control
- Are comfortable with ambiguity and motivated by building structure around it
- Use data to understand what's working and what isn't
- Are honest, direct, and care deeply about the people you work with
- Celebrate failure as a learning opportunity and share those learnings openly
Bonus points if you
- Have been through a company scaling phase before
- Have experience with high-throughput APIs and data-intensive products
- HODL some crypto and have genuine curiosity about the space
