About the role
Wealthsimple is looking for a bilingual, regulation-savvy, and entrepreneurial mortgage professional. Reporting to the Director, Principal Mortgage Broker, you'll serve as our designated Courtier hypothécaire dirigeant under the AMF — owning the licensing of our brokerage in Quebec and building the foundation for our presence in the province. This is a ground-floor opportunity to shape what Wealthsimple Mortgages looks, with significant room to grow with the role.
Beyond Quebec, you'll support the Director, Principal Mortgage Broker on licensing activities across Canada — helping manage broker licence lifecycles province by province and ensuring our national broker network stays compliant and current.
This role is perfect for a builder — someone who thrives in ambiguity, takes pride in doing things right, and wants to leave a real mark on one of Canada's most important and underserved mortgage markets.
In this role, you will have the opportunity to
- Lead the end-to-end process to obtain brokerage licensure in Quebec under the AMF and serve as our designated Courtier hypothécaire dirigeant — owning regulatory submissions, AMF relationships, and ongoing compliance oversight in the province.
- Become a licensed broker in all provinces and territories across Canada.
- Build and enforce deal compliance processes, ensuring all mortgage files meet regulatory requirements and conducting regular audits to close gaps.
- Use AI tools to improve compliance workflows — from licence tracking to document completeness checks — reducing manual effort and increasing reliability.
- Support the Director, Principal Mortgage Broker on national broker licensing — tracking renewal deadlines, CE/CPD requirements, and regulatory changes across all provinces to ensure zero lapses.
- Partner with legal, product, and operations teams to keep compliance policies current and support internal and external audits.
What you bring
- Compliance Native: You treat regulatory precision as a craft, not a checkbox. You understand the nuances of provincial mortgage regulation across Canada and are energized, not intimidated, by Canada’s varied brokerage requirements. Must hold an active Quebec mortgage broker licence.
- Active Broker: You don't just govern mortgage activity, you participate in it. Brokering keeps them sharp, credible with their team, and grounded in the real-world experience behind the compliance rules you enforce.
- Problem-solving: If something seems off in a process or file, you want to understand it and fix it before it becomes an issue. You bring clarity to ambiguity and don't wait for a playbook to be written.
- 5+ years of relevant experience: Previously worked in mortgages, compliance, operations, or a brokering role within a brokerage or financial institution. Ideally will have previously served as a principal broker/Courtier hypothécaire dirigeant. Leadership experience in a compliance or operations environment is required.
- Licensing Expertise: You have a deep understanding of broker licensing requirements, regulatory responsibilities, and provincial compliance obligations. Take a proactive approach to renewals, education requirements, and regulatory change - for yourself and the brokers you support.
- Bilingual (French/English): Fully fluent in both French and English — written and spoken.
- Experience with AI Tooling: Interested in how AI tools can make your job better, whether it's for document review, tracking, research, or workflow automation. You are always looking for the next opportunity to eliminate manual effort.
- Proactive and Action-Oriented: Act without being told what to do, take full ownership of your domain, and proactively seek input when needed to deliver well-supported solutions.
- Efficiency: You produce significant output with minimum wasted effort, finding the most direct path from problem to solution, especially in a function where volume and deadline pressure are constant.
- Strong written and verbal communication: Speaks plainly and truthfully. Can translate dense regulatory language into clear, practical guidance for brokers, leadership, and regulators alike.
- Honesty/Integrity: You don't cut corners on compliance - ever. You do what is right, not what is convenient, and holds the same standard for the team you lead.
